Teacher, Composer, Leader

Andrea von Holten is a choir director in Conroe, Texas, where she has doubled program enrollment in three years, consistently earned superior contest ratings, and her students are regularly selected for TMEA Region 9 Honor Choir and the TCDA MS/JH All-State Choir. She has developed curriculum for inclusive secondary music classes, judged and cliniced choirs throughout the Greater Houston area, and served on her campus leadership teams.

Before entering the classroom, Mrs. von Holten maintained a private voice studio whose students earned competition honors and collegiate music scholarships. She has also worked in opera administration and produced and performed opera across Texas and Louisiana. Andrea von Holten holds a Bachelor of Music from Baylor University (’17) where she studied under Alan Raines, Jerry McCoy, and Randall Umstead; and a Master of Music in Operatic Performance from Louisiana State University (’19) where she sang for John Dixon and studied under Loraine Sims.

Her first teachers were her parents, Bob and Connie Horton, who instilled a lifelong love of choral music and developing voices. She lives in Conroe with her spouse and dogs.
